In 1986, foundation chairman Eugene Wu adopted Baobao, a baby gorilla that had been smuggled into Taiwan. Since then, the Foundation has continued to support the protection and conservation of these gorilla species on the verge of extinction. After years of effort, the Foundation facilitated a partnership between the Taipei Zoo and the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), enabling the Taipei Zoo to join the European Endangered Species Program (Gorilla EEP). In 2019 the Taipei Zoo received international certification, and Taiwan became a key site for breeding gorilla globally.

With help from international conservation programs, Baobao was sent to the Netherlands in 2018 to join a gorilla breeding program, which won global recognition for Taiwan’s conservation work. Through the efforts of the Foundation and Taipei Zoo, two female gorillas were brought over from the Netherlands, and in 2020 and 2021, they gave birth to offspring Jabali and Ringo.

In 2023, the Foundation continued to invest in funding to support the Taipei Zoo's participation in international conferences and exchanges, including those with the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and Southeast Asian Zoos and Aquaria Association (SEAZA). The efforts enable Taiwan to keep up with international trends, update knowledge, and enhance visibility in the global conservation community.
